Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It was a highly successful back-to-back weekend for Olton and West Warwick, who yesterday followed up their 6-1 victory at Sutton Coldfield on Saturday with a 3-1 win at home against Canterbury to lead the Premier Division of the Women's National League. For Slough and Hightown it was a most disappointing weekend.
The teams turned up at Bisham Abbey on Saturday only to learn that a contractor working at the site the previous day had cut the electricity supply which meant water could not be pumped on to the recently refurbished water-based pitch and play was not possible. Yesterday Hightown's home game against Chelmsford fell foul of the weather as did Slough's match away at Ipswich.
Fyffes Leicester, like Olton, notched up nine goals over the weekend. They overcame a two-goal deficit at home to Clifton to win 3-2 and yesterday ran in six against Trojans who on Saturday had registered their first point of the season in a 2-2 draw away at Chelmsford.
England's world cup players were among the goals over the weekend with Leisa King scoring twice in Ipswich's 2-2 draw at Canterbury and the recalled Denise Marston-Smith scoring for Clifton at Leicester on Saturday and again in Clifton's 3-0 win yesterday against Sutton Coldfield.
Birmingham University, in their first season in the National League, beat Deeside Ramblers 2-0 to lead Division Two by three points from Poynton and are the only League side on maximum points. Poynton recorded a 7-1 victory over Leyland Motors.
