Your support makes all the difference.China won the Women's Champions Trophy in Macão yesterday when they beat Argentina, the defending champions, 3-1 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out after the teams had been level 2-2 at the end of extra time.
The Netherlands took third place with a golden goal from their captain Mijntje Donners in the 73rd minute to win 4-3 against Olympic champions Australia. England, beaten 2-0 by New Zealand, had to settle for the wooden spoon.
England's inability to convert chances has been their downfall, playing 367 minutes without scoring since their solitary goal against China in their opening game. Yesterday they failed to capitalise on eight penalty corners and numerous opportunities in open play, and saw New Zealand's Ninina Roberts-Lang seal the game with an excellent solo goal in the closing stages after Amanda Christie's 10th-minute opener.
In the men's Champions' Trophy in Cologne, Germany remained on course to retain their title with a 3-2 win against India. Pakistan beat their Asian rivals South Korea 4-1 and the second-placed Netherlands trounced Australia 6-1.
