England, after an encouraging 4-1 victory against Egypt in their opening game in the Sahara Champions Challenge in Alexandria, were brought back to reality in their second game when they were thrashed 5-2 by South Korea on Saturday.

In a niggly game, Mark Pearn and Barry Middleton hit goals for England. But Jung Seon Lee claimed a hat-trick to prove South Korea's overall superiority. England play Argentina tonight before facing an in-form Belgium on Wednesday.

In Kuala Lumpur, the England Under-21 side had to settle for the wooden spoon in their Six Nations Tournament - losing their final game on a penalty shoot-out to Germany.

In yesterday's National League programme, Loughborough Students won 5-1 at home to Firebrands and Old Loughtonians won 2-0 away at St Albans. At the top, Cannock moved six points clear of second-placed Reading with a 2-1 win away to the Berkshire side. The former England striker Danny Hall scored yet another hat-trick for Guildford in a 6-2 victory at Chelmsford to keep alive the Surrey club's play-off hopes.

Fyffes Leicester lead the Women's First Division - three points ahead of Ipswich, who they beat 4-1 on Saturday, although yesterday they struggled from 3-1 down to draw 4-4 with Harleston Magpies.
