Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ayr Scottish Eagles became their latest victims on Sunday when they were beaten 3-1. The game saw the return of last season's Superleague player of the year, Ed Courtenay, to the Sheffield Arena. However, he was kept quiet by the home defence. Wayne Norris, Kayle Short and Kent Simpson netted the goals, with Jan Mikel's late reply a mere consolation.

Nottingham Panthers and Cardiff Devils both enjoyed 3-2 overtime wins, at London Knights and at home to Belfast Giants, respectively.

Panthers were forced into overtime by Rich Bronilla's equaliser after Jimmy Paek and David Struch had put the visitors ahead following Bill Huard's opener in the first period. Three minutes into the extra period Jamie Leach fired home the winner to give Nottingham their third win of the season.

Steve Thornton settled his Cardiff side's game with Belfast at the IceHouse, with the decisive goal coming four minutes into the overtime session.

Bracknell Bees managed their first victory in regulation by handing Manchester Storm their fourth defeat in five games with a 6-3 win at Amen Corner.
