From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Peter Manley produced a high-class display to clinch his place in the quarterfinals of the Ladbrokes.com PDC World Championship at the expense of Keith Deller.

The Circus Tavern crowd berated Manley following his stinging attack on Phil Taylor in the newspapers. But "One Dart" enjoyed the whole experience and sealed a 4-2 success over the 1983 world champion.

"The match was surprising," Manley said. "It took me a 94 average to beat him because he was superb."

Speaking about the reaction of the fans, he added: "The crowd were nowhere near as bad as I expected. People were laughing when they were shouting things."

Simon Whatley booked his place in the last eight with a 4-1 win over Lionel Sams. Whatley bounced back from losing the opening set with a 3-2 success in the second. The man from Yeovil then won six of the next seven legs to close within one set of victory.

Sams showed his quality with a superb 127 checkout in the fifth, but Whatley nailed double 19 to progress.

"I've got the game to match anyone, but it's all about doing it on the televised stage," he added.
