Stop the press! Ian Wright has picked who he wants to win the epic showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, and while that may not be news in itself, he’s managed to reveal who the Pacman supports.
The ex-footballer has given his support to the Pacquiao over Mayweather after posting a picture on his Twitter account of the Filipino kitted out in an Arsenal jacket.
Along with the picture, the former Arsenal and England striker said: “I know who I want now! Manny is a goner!”
The bookmakers’ have gone with the undefeated Mayweather as the slight favourite for the clash, with the experts generally tipping a points victory in the American’s favour. But if Pacquiao is at his furious and brutal best, the fight could yet go in his favour, which would appear to delight Wright and his fellow Gooners around the globe.
With the fighters set to split a purse of at least £300m in a 60-40 split in Mayweather’s favour, the match is undoubtedly the most lucrative ever seen in boxing history. The wait not is to see if it can fit its billing as the greatest.
So which Premier League fan base should get behind Mayweather for the fight? Well, if the build up to his victory over Ricky Hatton is anything to go by, then Manchester United fans will be in the corner of the American come the opening bell.
Hatton, and avid Manchester City fan, was provoked by Mayweather when he appeared at a press conference in a United shirt. Unfortunately for Hatton, Mayweather not only talked the talk, but walked the walk with a tenth round TKO.
