Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Last week it was a bronze medal with England at the Commonwealth Games but

Newcastle Eagles' player-coach Fab Flournoy will be thinking of silverware if his BBL leaders beat second-placed Scottish Rocks on Tyneside tonight.

Thursday night's 99-75 hammering of third-placed Sheffield Sharks opened a two-point lead over the Rocks and, with five games of the regular season to play, the Eagles could be uncatchable if they win.

Rocks coach Steve Swanson is shifting the pressure of expectation on to Flournoy, who has already scooped the BBL Cup and Trophy titles this season.

Swanson said: "The Eagles are very much the team who have an expectation to cope with. They are expected by many people to win everything."

The Sharks recovered last night to consolidate third place with a 104-92 win at Brighton Bears, where Sterling Davis hit 35 points. Sharks closed the second quarter 22-6 for a decisive 56-40 half-time lead.

Milton Keynes Lions beat Birmingham Bullets 83-81, to move ninth, three points behind the Bears who are in the final slot for the play-off quarter-finals.
