England team has Farah at its core

Double European champion Mo Farah is looking to end a golden summer season on a high at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October.

The 27-year-old, who won the 5,000 and 10,000 metres in Barcelona last month and last week broke the 28-year-old British record over the shorter distance, was yesterday one of three European gold medallists named in England's team for the Games.

Farah, who will also race over both distances in India, was joined by fellow European champions 110m hurdler Andy Turner and Phillips Idowu, who will be defending his triple jump crown.

Olympic 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu, who missed the European Championships with a quad injury, was also included in the 100-strong team of athletes and will defend the title she won in Melbourne four years ago.

Farah said: "After an amazing season, two gold medals in the European Championships and a new British record, I hope to finish a fantastic summer season with another good performance in India."
