Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Dwain Chambers matched his lifetime best to thrash the opposition and reach the 60 metres final later tonight at the World Indoor Championships in Valencia.

Chambers roared out of his blocks to pull away from Nigeria's Isaac Uche and win by one hundredth of a second in a time of 6.55 seconds.

That matched the performance the controversial sprinter achieved eight years ago in Ghent.

Now Chambers, who the British selectors admitted they did not want in their side, could round off a difficult period by claiming the gold medal this evening.

Jeanette Kwakye equalled Bev Kinch's 22-year-old British record of 7.13secs as she finished second in her 60m semi-finals.

Kwakye made a poor start but had a superb pick-up and almost snatched victory from Tahesia Harigan, winner in a British Virgin Islands record of 7.12 secs.

Laura Turner failed to join her team-mate in tonight's final when finishing fourth in a time of 7.28secs.
