Aljabr leads Sussex squad
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Dubai Millennium may sidestep next Wednesday's Sussex Stakes and has the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Marois at Deauville on 13 August as an option, and the leading two-year-old Vacamonte has the Solario Stakes at Sandown on 19 August as his target instead of Goodwood's Vintage Stakes.

As a replacement for Dubai Millennium, Godolphin have Aljabr, winner of the £250,000 Sussex Stakes last season, Josr Algarhoud and Diktat as considerations for the event.
However, following a racecourse gallop at Yarmouth on Tuesday, Crimplene, the Irish 1,000 Guineas and Coronation Stakes winner, is more likely to go for the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood on Saturday week.
The weights for the 87 entries for the Ebor Handicap at York on 23 August were announced yesterday, with Vicious Circle having to defy 9st 9lb if he is to land a repeat win in the £175,000 prize. Luca Cumani is more likely to be represented by Boreas, who has been made the 9-1 favourite for the race with the sponsor, the Tote.
"It would be a hell of an ask for Vicious Circle with that weight," Cumani said, "but he runs next week at Goodwood and then we'll see," he said. "The Melbourne Cup is a long-term dream but we'll have to see whether he warrants a challenge like that nearer the time."
Ebor Handicap (York, 23 August): Tote: 9-1 Boreas, 10-1 Musician, Romantic Affair, 12-1 Eminence Grise, 14-1 Give The Slip, 16-1 Alva Glen, Baniyar, Bay Of Islands, Give Notice, Inch Perfect, Ligne Gagnante, Mowbray, Quality Team, Rada's Daughter, Seek, Temple Way, Vicious Circle, 20-1 others.
