1982: First professional fight, beating Lupe Guerra (K0 first round).

1985: Won European heavyweight championship, beating Anders Eklund at Wembley (KO fourth round).

1986: Suffered first world title defeat (WBA), losing to Tim Witherspoon at Wembley (TKO 11th round).

1989: Second world title defeat (undisputed world heavyweight championship) at the hands of Mike Tyson in Las Vegas (TKO fifth round).

1993: Third world title defeat (WBC), by Lennox Lewis in Cardiff (TKO seventh round).

1995: Won world title (WBC), beating Oliver McCall at Wembley (unanimous points decision).
