From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Nottingham Forest, struggling to escape the clutches of the Premiership's relegation zone, are expected to complete the pounds 4.5m signing of the Celtic striker Pierre van Hooijdonk today.

The club has called a news conference for this afternoon and it is believed they will announce they have acquired the Dutch striker, who has been unsettled at Celtic Park for some time.

Forest, who have scored only one goal in their last seven League and Cup games, have been searching for new players since the pounds 16.5m takeover of the club a fortnight ago.

It is thought that Forest are trying to hurry through the deal so that van Hooijdonk can make his debut against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park tomorrow night.

Manchester United have taken the Israeli international Gadi Bromer on trial with a view to him making a permanent move to Old Trafford. The 23-year-old defender is valued at pounds 2m by his club, Maccabi Tel Aviv, and is reported to be a lifelong United supporter.

Paul Gascoigne yesterday confirmed that he will stay at Rangers - if offered a acceptable terms. Rangers want the 29-year-old England midfielder to sign a new contract after speculation that he would move south of the border.

He also revealed that he could soon be back in training after his ankle injury. The England coach, Glenn Hoddle, was disappointed to learn that Gascoigne's ankle may remain in plaster for another fortnight - possibly making him miss the World Cup qualifier against Georgia next month.
