Ali Krieger came out in support of team-mate Megan Rapinoe on Wednesday after she was criticised by President Trump for ruling out a visit to the Oval Office.
“In regards to the ‘President’s’ tweet today, I know women who you cannot control or grope anger you, but I stand by @mPinoe & will sit this one out as well,” Krieger tweeted.
“I don’t support this administration nor their fight against LGBTQ+ citizens, immigrants & our most vulnerable.”
Krieger becomes the third US player to reject a White House visit after Rapinoe and Alex Morgan, who said last month that she would turn down any formal invitation.
Rapinoe angered President Trump earlier this week when she dismissed the prospect of a White House visit by telling Eight by Eight magazine: “I’m not going to the f****** White House.”
The 33-year-old winger is an LGBT+ activist and vocal critic of President Trump’s policies. Rapinoe also refuses to sing her country’s national anthem before matches.
Trump responded by inviting the US squad to attend the White House after the World Cup whether they “win or lose” the tournament, yet still criticised Rapinoe.
“Megan should WIN first before she TALKS!” he tweeted. “Finish the job!
“Megan should never disrespect our country, the White House, or our flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the flag that you wear,” he tweeted.
