Megan Rapinoe has labelled Donald Trump “completely crazy” and called for a new president.

The American was giving her wishlist for 2020 after being named the women’s Ballon d’Or winner in Paris.

The 34-year-old has enjoyed a year of success, helping guide the US to victory at this summer’s World Cup, where she was named player of the tournament and finished joint-top scorer with six goals.

Off the pitch, Rapinoe has emerged as a leading figure in the fight for LGBT+ rights and equal pay.

She also made headlines after saying she would refuse to visit the White House if the US won the World Cup and played an active role in the national side’s litigation against their federation over equal pay.

And after winning the Ballon d’Or on Monday night, Rapinoe ‘pleaded’ for an end to Trump’s presidential administration as she outlined her wishes for the new year.

“An Olympic title with the United States,” she said. “No national team has won a golden medal consecutively after winning the world title.

“I also wish for a new president. The current one is completely crazy. I am pleading for a radical democratic nominee who could reform the system which, clearly, is not functioning, except for those who have a lot of money.

“We have to look after people at the bottom, including those who vote for Trump, often poor white citizens who need social protections and a job.”

Rapinoe also won the women’s award at the Best Fifa Football Awards in September.

England’s Lucy Bronze claimed the runner-up spot for the women’s Ballon d’Or.
