Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Paris Saint-Germain was brilliant at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea were dumped out of the Champions League after a 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Ibrahimovic, 34, set up the first and scored the second as the Blues defence failed to cope with his quality.
In the aftermath of the game, BT Sport pundits Rio Ferdinand and Glenn Hoddle said that they would love for the enigmatic Swede to play in the Premier League before he retires.
Ferdinand went one further, saying Ibrahimovic, who is out of contract at the end of the season and expected to leave PSG, would be a perfect fit at Arsenal.
"He showed tonight that even at 34, as a free transfer English clubs should be looking at this guy to come over here and be the catalyst to winning things because that’s what he does – he wins things," said Ferdinand, who won the Premier League six times and the Champions League at Old Trafford.
"This game was decided by clinical top-level play and he was at the centre of that both times, one with an assist and one with a goal which basically ended the tie."
Host Gary Lineker asked which British teams would be best.
"What he’d bring to Arsenal is a mentality, what they’re lacking to win," added the former centre-back. "To get over the line and win titles. He’s done that more than anyone."
Glenn Hoddle agreed, adding: "I’d love to see him in the Premier League next year. It would be marvelous for the Premier League."
However, Gunners fans shouldn't get too excited just yet as the man himself said he has not made any decisions just yet.
He was asked if he would like to play in Britain 'when' he leaves PSG.
"'When I leave PSG?' Ok you already said it," he said with a wry smile on his face.
"I have another two months with PSG, so for the moment I'm not talking to nobody, because it's not the moment [to do so]. I'm not close [to signing] for nobody."
