From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced the signing of forward Stephen Hunt from Hull City, for an undisclosed fee.

Hull rejected a £5m bid from Mick McCarthy's side in January, but Hunt later revealed he struck an agreement with chairman Adam Pearson that he would be allowed to leave if the club failed to stay in the Premier League. It is thought the fee is now considerably less than £5m.

The Republic of Ireland international was one of the Tigers' most saleable assets.

Hunt, 28, who has a foot injury which will rule him out of the start of the new season, admits "two or three" clubs were after his signature. "Wolves long-standing interest has helped," he said. "When they came in, and obviously I'm not fit yet, they put so much faith in me and you think, 'To be honest they really want me and I really want to go there'."
