Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.West Brom stayed in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth last season, finishing 17th and just three points from the drop.
This season is sure to be another nervy campaign of trying to avoid relegation.
COMPLETED TRANSFERS
Craig Gardner - Free from Sunderland
The Baggies beat off plenty of competition from several other clubs to land the 27-year-old. He is a versatile player, has an eye to goal and plenty of Premier League experience from his spells with Aston Villa, Birmingham and the Blackcats. He has signed on a three-year deal with the option for a further year after that.
Joleon Lescott - Free from Manchester City
Lescott, 31, made just 10 appearances under Manuel Pellegrini as City won the title last season and so called time on his career at the Etihad. He joins back up with an old colleague having previously worked with new West Brom manager Alan Irvine when he was at Everton.
Chris Baird - Free from Burnley
The defender has had a mixed time since leaving Fulham in January, playing short spells at Reading and Burnley. Baird will hope to settle at the Hawthorns. Another versatile player able to play in many positions and should be a good addition to the Baggies' squad. The 32-year-old has 65 caps for Northern Ireland.
Sebastien Pocognoli - Undisclosed from Hannover 96
West Brom have added more international experience to their squad with Belgium left-back Pocognoli. The 26-year-old narrowly missed out on a place at the World Cup through injury but now joins the Premier League on a three-year deal. He has played 12 caps for Belgium and won the Johan Cruyff Shield in 2009.
Brown Ideye - £10m from Dynamo Kiev
The £10m paid of Ideye is West Brom's record ever signing. The striker will wear the number nine shirt and is likely to spearhead the Baggies' attack. There will be a lot of pressure on him to provide the goals in a likely relegation scrap this season. He was overlooked by Nigeria boss Stephen Keshi for their World Cup squad.
Andrew Wisdom - Loan from Liverpool
The defender made three appearances for the Reds at the start of last season before the 21-year-old joined Derby on loan for the rest of the year. He starting 38 games, including the Sky Bet Championship play-off final defeat to QPR.
Jason Davidson - Undisclosed from Heracles Almelo
The Australian defender joined from Dutch side Heracles. The left-back played in all three of his nation's games at the World Cup.
