Jose Mourinho has told Chelsea he prefers to continue the club’s faltering season with his two remaining fit goalkeepers, Asmir Begovic and Jamal Blackman, in the absence of Thibaut Courtois.

The Chelsea manager has been linked with a move for Victor Valdes, the former Barcelona goalkeeper who is out of favour at Manchester United, but there is no Chelsea interest as things stand.

The Premier League allows a club to make an emergency loan if they have just one fit professional goalkeeper.

Courtois is expected to be out until January following surgery on his right knee.
