Bruce wants Distin
The Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has revealed he is interested in signing Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin but is yet to make a move for the Frenchman. "He's a player we like and admire," Bruce said. "We are working extremely hard to improve the squad." The former Newcastle centre-half has one year left on his contract at Fratton Park, and Aston Villa and Liverpool are also said to be monitoring his situation.
Gareth to Bale out Milan?
Gareth Bale's agent has admitted the Tottenham left-back is flattered with reports linking him with a move to Milan. "It's true, the player likes Milan," Peppe Tirri said. "But many coaches are fans of Bale." Birmingham City and Ajax are also keen on the 20 year-old Wales International.
West Ham seek firepower
Gianfranco Zola remains hopeful that West Ham will sign a new striker before the start of the season. "Everybody knows that we need a bit more cover [up front],"Zola said. "We are trying to strengthen the team so maybe this week something will happen." West Ham are reportedly interested in Barcelona's Eidur Gudjohnsen and Luca Toni of Bayern Munich.

Hammill to be a Tyke
Barnsley have won the race to sign the Liverpool midfielder Adam Hammill. Both the Championship side and Leeds had submitted offers for the 21-year-old, who will move to Oakwell on a permanent basis after impressing on loan last season.

The Real Madrid winger Arjen Robben has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from the Bernabeu. "My intention is to stay here [at Madrid]," the Netherlands international said. "I have a lot of confidence for the coming season."
Saha rejects move
David Moyes has revealed that Everton turned down an offer from Turkish side Besiktas for Louis Saha over the summer. "Louis is someone we had a big bid for," the Everton manager said. "But he didn't want to go and we didn't want to sell."
Pato not Chelsea-bound
Milan have dismissed reports that Chelsea have been holding talks with their Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato. "There are no negotiations ongoing with Chelsea regarding Alexandre Pato," a statement from the Serie A side said. "He is absolutely non-transferable."
