Tottenham have turned down a bid for out of favour midfielder Etienne Capoue, according to reports.

It is understood that Rafael Benitez's Napoli bid £8.25m for the Frenchman but that the London club are holding out for more like £11.5m.

Capoue has found himself on the periphery of the first team under new boss Tim Sherwood and is understood to want a move away in order to help his chances of making France's World Cup squad.

Napoli were reportedly originally keen on a loan move for the midfielder, but it is thought that Tottenham would prefer a permanent deal.

Mino Raiola, the player's agent, is reportedly in London in order to negotiate with Tottenham.

Capoue has only been at White Hart Lane since arriving for a fee that could rise to £11m in the summer but has already found himself surplus to requirements under Sherwood who has favoured youngster Nabil Bentaleb.
