From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori could be on his way out of Anfied on a short-term move after sources close to Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon suggested they are looking at taking the 20-year-old on loan. “We have decided to study this subject but it depends on the Reds and formally we have not received any communication,” the source explained. Ilori is yet to feature in Brendan Rodgers side since he completed his summer transfer from Sporting, and a return seems likely given his lack of playing time.
Another of Rodgers’ summer signings appears set for talks with the club after Iago Aspas’ agent confirmed he will speak to officials regarding the forward’s future at Anfield. “In two weeks I have a meeting in Liverpool with the Liverpool directors to analyse the future of Iago Aspas in January,” said Rodriguez Baster.
Andre Villas-Boas could attempt to get his Tottenham side firing by making a £30m bid for former Manchester United striker Guiseppe Rossi. The Italian international is currently playing for Fiorentina, but it remains to be seen whether Spurs would sanction another big-money move having already spent over £110m in the summer.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed his intention to bring in “one or two players” in the January transfer window following the long-term injuries suffered by Arouna Kone and Darren Gibson. The Spaniard said: We are going to use the window in January to try to help the team because we lost two players for the long term. Arouna and Darron are two very important players for us so we will try to see if we can identify one or two players that can help the group.
