From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The English transfer window may now be closed but European clubs are still able to buy new players until their respective deadlines, meaning that a number of high-profile players could still switch clubs this month.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen and Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil have all been linked with moves away from their clubs this month, with sides from outside the Premier League looking to swoop.

“I think the Premier League cannot give this advantage to the European clubs,” Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino complained last weekend. “That is another point to talk about, to argue that we are at a disadvantage to European clubs because they have 20 days more to operate. I think that was a big mistake for the Premier League to allow that - we open the door to different clubs in Europe to try to create confusion within your squad.”

Premier League sides that missed out on completing a deal could also see their long-term targets won over by new suitors this month. Philippe Coutinho and Paulo Dybala are both targets for Paris Saint-Germain, while Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek is in talks with Real Madrid.

Below, we round-up the 20 biggest transfer sagas that are still running this month.

Transfer deadlines:

Italy’s Serie A is the next big transfer deadline. The Italian window shuts on 23 August.

The transfer window in La Liga, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 meanwhile shuts on 2 September.
