A blow to both Arsenal and Manchester United – Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil has told reporters in Spain that he want to stay at the Bernebeu, regardless of Gareth Bale’s imminent arrival.

“I feel really good at Madrid. I have a contract here until 2016. It is an honour to play with this team,” the 24-year-old said. “I appreciate them [Arsenal and Manchester United] interested in me but my decision is clear: stay here.”

Ozil was seen as the playmaker signing which David Moyes covets at United, and after storming off down the tunnel when he was substituted in Madrid’s 1-0 win at Granada on Monday night, it had been reported he was unhappy with his position at the club, but the German international has now denied this.

In yet more transfer anguish for Arsenal, another creative Madrid player linked with a move to the north London side also appears set to stay. “Even if Bale signs, I don’t want Di Maria to leave.” Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti told the press after the victory over Granada, in which the Argentine winger played a starring role.
