Arsenal and Manchester United could be set for a tussle in the transfer market over Basel defender Fabian Schar.

Manchester United have previously been linked with moves for both Schar and his sought after teammate Mohamed Salah but more recently Arsenal's interest has been revealed.

Schar's agent said that several big European clubs, including the Gunners, are keen on signing the 21-year-old.

"He is happy at Basle, where there is a great atmosphere within the club,’ said representative Dimitrios Papadopoulos.

"Arsenal? I can confirm we have had contact with English clubs who want to sign him.

"There is also interest from Italian and German clubs, but we have more contact from England."

Schar has had an impressive season for Basel, including helping his side beat Chelsea home and away in the Champions League.
