Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has revealed he is not interested in a move back to the Premier League after he announced his plans to remain with Real Madrid until his retirement.
The 28-year-old, who joined Real from Tottenham in the summer of 2012 for £33m, struggled for form early on after his move to Spain, but he has since found his form that has seen him become a regular starter under Carlo Ancelotti.
The Croatian was linked with a move to Manchester United in the transfer window, but he has dismissed any talk of a Madrid exit and insist that his long-term future lies at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Speaking to Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Belgium and Scotland, Modric said: “I have no doubt that the best thing that ever happened to me in football is to play in Madrid.”
Asked where he plans to be once the remaining four-years on his contract expire, Modric answered “Where will I be in four years? Here.
“Besides being a great club, my family feels amazing in Madrid. In football it is difficult to plan, but if you ask me, I would like to retire in Madrid. With titles, of course.”
Modric is yet to score this season, but his style of attacking, creative play is exactly what United fans are calling for, with supporters eager to see manager David Moyes dip into the transfer market in January.
Moyes’ midfield issues worsened on the weekend with the news that £27.5m signing Marouane Fellaini was ruled out for seven weeks after he damaged ligaments in his wrist in the 2-1 win over Sunderland at the weekend.
