From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Despite making their best start in the Premier League for four years, and with the return of Luis Suarez being hailed as “like a new signing”, Liverpool are planning to further invest in the squad in January.

Speaking after the 3-1 victory over Sunderland which saw them go second in the Premier League with 13 points from their opening six fixtures, Brendan Rodgers confirmed that the club intend to spend when the transfer window re-opens.

"Now we can only concentrate on the league up until Christmas," Rodgers said.

"So we have to make sure we stay up in that top six in the league and keep fighting and hopefully we can reinforce in January."

Rodgers has already been well backed in the transfer market by the club's American owners, bringing in Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho last January and then Mamadou Sakho, Tiago Llori, Simon Mognolet, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto for sizeable fees this summer.

Despite wanting to strengthen, the Liverpool manager appears happy with the quality already at his disposal.

"We have got a very good side. I think we showed that in the games we have played so far.

"For example the games against Manchester United, not only in the cup but also in the league – against a top team we showed that we are capable of harm and making sure we win those games."
