From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Daniel Agger’s agent Per Steffensen has suggested the Dane would consider a move to Barcelona, and confirmed the Spaniards made a bid – reported to be £15m – for the centre-back that was rejected.

Agger’s situation depends on developments on Chelsea defender David Luiz, a more expensive option for Barcalona with the Brazilian valued at around £30m.

“We are aware that Barcelona have made an offer for Daniel that Liverpool have rejected,” Steffensen said.

“Daniel has a contract with Liverpool for the next three years and it would be up to the clubs to agree a fee for his transfer in order for that to change.”

With Jamie Carragher now retired, Agger has been promoted to Liverpool’s vice-captain. An ever-present, the Denmark international appeared in 35 out of the club’s 38 Premier League matches last season.

The 28-year-old has been at Anfield since he joined in 2006 from Danish club Brondby, and he has gone on to make over 200 appearances in his Reds career to date.
