After winning the Champions League and six Serie A titles during his career, the 39-year-old is stubborn to retire and could be offered a lucrative contract in Thailand.
According to Goal Malaysia, the move will be funded by the club's new owners, the wealthiest company in Thailand.
Peter Withe, the former Newcastle United player and current Rayong boss, is quoted as saying his 'friend' Del Piero has all of the power firmly in his own hands.
"Del Piero? Are you sure you want to ask me about that?" Withe said.
"Okay listen, now my friend is in Sydney. You know Sydney FC, right? Now my friend's there. So it's up to Mr. Del Piero whether he signs the deal or not.
"If he signs, he'll be here. If he's not, he'll stay at Sydney. That's it."
Rayong recently earned promotion to the Thai Premier League and are keen to overshadow Muanthong United's recent signing Jay Bothroyd.
In 2004 Del Piero was named in the FIFA 100, a list of the greatest living footballers as selected by Pelé as a part of FIFA's centenary celebrations.
