Everton manager Roberto Martinez is hoping to tie up a pre-contract agreement with Spartak Moscow winger Aiden McGeady - and may agree a fee with the Russian club in order to sign him this month, according to reports.

The former Celtic player, now 27-years-old after four years with Spartak, is said to be on the verge of agreeing personal terms with the Toffees after weeks of negotiations with Martinez, according to The Mail.

Once wages are agreed there is also a chance, provided the two clubs can agree on a fee, that McGeady could play for Everton for the remainder of the season.

After leaving Celtic Park for £9.5m in 2010, the Republic of Ireland international went on to make seventy-two appearances for the Russians - scoring eleven goals.

Martinez was linked with McGeady before the transfer window opened but finally appears close to striking a deal.
