The 21-year-old only joined Spurs in the summer, under Andre-Villas-Boas, for £30m but has made just nine appearances for the club.
Despite new manager Tim Sherwood previously rubbishing speculation that the former Roma man could leave on loan this month, Jose Lamela says his son is indeed looking to leave.
"Erik is not happy and wants to go back to Italy," he told the Italian press.
"He has been linked with Lazio, but I don’t know anything about this. Could he re-join Roma? I don’t know.
"Tottenham does not want him to leave in January."
Lamela has been linked with a series of European clubs since his unhappiness came to light. Inter Milan were believed to be keen on a loan-move but are yet to submit an official approach.
Sherwood also denied rumours this morning that he was interested in bringing Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott to Tottenham.
He said: "I don't think we need players here. We need to get them fit, the ones we have got, and then if anyone springs up who could really make us better, our 11, then possibly we will go in.
"I think the club have always backed their managers and I don't think they will be different with me, but I really think we are fine once we get everyone fit.
"We are just looking in that treatment room and seeing if it can empty a little bit and when it does we can assess what we need and what we might need."
