Your support makes all the difference.Italian side Roma have left their vice-captain Daniele De Rossi off their squad list for their pre-season training camp in Riscone, fuelling rumours that he is set for an £11m switch to Chelsea.
The Italian international has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the past year, and has spoken before that he would consider a move to the Premier League. Reports in Italy claim that De Rossi will issue a statement later this week to clarify his future.
De Rossi has been given extra leave due to his participation in Italy’s Confederations Cup campaign, having been Roma’s sole representative in the national squad this summer.
Having let Spanish defensive midfielder Oriol Romeu join Valencia on a season-long loan, and with questions remaining over John Obi Mikel’s future, Chelsea could do with a holding midfielder to add to their already talented options in the centre.
The 30-year-old has been a mainstay for the Azzuri since his debut in 2004, making 90 appearances for the national side and scoring 15 goals along the way.
Chelsea have added Marko van Ginkel to compete with Mikel, Ramires and stalwart Frank Lampard, but Jose Mourinho is keep Brazilian David Luiz in defence after former boss Rafael Benitez chose to deploy the 26-year-old as the holding midfielder at times last season.
Chelsea’s full-back Wallace had been linked with a loan move to Roma as part of the deal, but the club confirmed that he has joined their Serie A rivals Inter Milan instead as he doesn’t yet qualify for a work permit in the Premier League.
A statement on the club’s official website read: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm Wallace has today joined Inter Milan on loan until the end of the season.
“The 19-year-old took part in the Chelsea Here to Play, Here to Stay pre-season tour of Asia, making his debut in our win against the Singha All-Star XI in Bangkok and impressed with his attacking play from right-back.”
