Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is trying to secure a cut-price deal for Newcastle United's injury-hit defender Steven Taylor, according to reports.

Despite being a regular member of Alan Pardew's side over the years, Taylor has made just two starts for the Magpies this season and looks to be on his way out of St. James' Park.

Losing his place to the impressive Mike Williamson in the heart of the Newcastle defence, the Mail report today that Cardiff are willing to test their resolve.

Solskjaer is also striving to secure a loan deal for Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha and is buoyed by the news that the Red Devils would rather do business with his new side than Crystal Palace.

The 40-year-old is still working on deals for midfield duo of Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Mats Moller Daehli, both capped by Norway, who he worked with at former club Molde and while in charge of the Manchester United reserve team.

It is still unclear whether Taylor, called up to international duty with England twice, will be open to the move.
