Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy is still interested in a move for Bobo Baldé but insists he is unable to meet the Celtic defender's wage demands. Baldé is reportedly earning around £30,000 a week at Parkhead but would have the opportunity to play first-team football at Molineux. McCarthy said: "We don't pay that kind of money as we're not in that market or that pay league, so it's a non-starter in that sense. But he has only one year left on his contract so he has the option of staying and taking the money or moving on; taking less but playing and having a longer contract. "I enquired about his availability before the end of last season. I had watched Celtic play against Rangers and I just asked a question then about what his financial position was. Baldé has always been one I've liked because he is a big, powerful centre-half."
Meteb Egypt game puts move in doubt
Emad Meteb's move to Bristol City could be in doubt after the Egypt international played for his former team. The 25-year-old striker last week completed a club record £1.5m switch to Ashton Gate from Al Ahly. However, Meteb turned out in the Cairo derby against Zamalek on Sunday and it is now unclear who owns the rights to the player. However, his agent has played down the misunderstanding and is confident Meteb will play for Bristol City when the season starts.
Pogatetz keen to sign new Boro deal
Middlesbrough defender Emanuel Pogatetz has opened talks about a contract extension. Although the Austria international defender has another two years remaining on his present five-year deal, both Boro and the player are eager to cement their relationship. The 25-year-old said: "We've been talking about it [a contract] for a short period. I have said I really want to be here as long as possible and there are signals from the club they want to keep me here, so I think we will reach an agreement."

Ngog joins Liverpool
I feel this is exactly the type of young signing we need. Unfortunately for some it is frustrating having to wait and see if we have just signed the next Henry. Time will tell, I guess, and 1.5 million isn't a great deal of money in football these days. Takefive, http://forums.lfconline.com/show/afwebb.thread6553
Muntari on his way to Inter?
I have never really taken to Muntari, although he had potential, he's lazy, gives away loads of fouls and thinks he's much better than everyone else. This deal is good business but I can't see him getting into the Inter first team that often. Micromrsteed, BBC 606 Forums
