Vincent Janssen is poised to complete his move from AK Alkmaar to Tottenham Hotspur as the Dutch forward undergoes a medical with the London club, according to reports.

After spending two weeks thrashing out an agreement for the forward – in which an original £15m was rejected by the Eredivisie side – it’s understood that a deal worth to be £18.8m has finally been settled upon.

The 22-year-old made 34 appearances for AZ Alkmaar last season, scoring 25 goals, and is expected to provide attacking cover to Harry Kane.

In light of Mauricio Pochettino’s favoured 4-2-3-1 formation, in which Kane has nailed down his position at the spearhead of Tottenham’s attack, it’s likely the Dutch striker will join the side as a squad player.

However, Janssen has insisted he’ll be more than just back-up. “Harry Kane? People can say what they want but I'm not afraid of anybody,” he said.

“He is a great striker but we will see how it goes. We can complement each other, I think I can learn a lot from him.”

The Holland international is reported to have flown to London on Monday in order to undergo his medical and is expected to remain in the capital until Tuesday to finalise the deal.

Janssen had originally visited Spurs’ training ground over a month ago after being given permission by Alkmaar.

According to Sky Sports, the player has been on Tottenham’s books since last May when Pochettino and head of recruitment Paul Mitchell spotted the Dutchman in a friendly match against Republic of Ireland.

Both Wolfsburg and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly had their own offers for the striker rejected but cooled their interest once the striker expressed his desire to move to Spurs.

Alkmaar are poised to make a healthy profit from Janssen having bought the player from Almere last summer in a deal reported to be worth €400,000.
