Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Tottenham will meet Seville's release clause for captain Federico Fazio, according to the club's sporting director.
Monchi told reporters that the north London club have decided to move for Fazio after a move for Villareal's Mateo Musacchio was called off earlier this month.
"It seems that Tottenham is willing to pay the [release] clause," Monchi told reporters.
"We are waiting to see the money in the Football League. We are not going to negotiate with anyone because our desire is to keep Fazio in Sevilla."
With Michael Dawson on his way to Hull City new manager Mauricio Pochettino requires extra defensive cover, despite Eric Dier's superb start to his Tottenham career.
Monchi added that his club were unable to compete with the wages that Premier League clubs could offer.
He said: "Two months ago we talked about his renewal, but it was not possible. When an English team appears interested in one of our players it is difficult because they can multiply player salaries.
"We tried to renew him since last season but the distances were huge even if we were hoping to make a new deal."
