Depay has been linked with a move to the Premier League after impressing in Brazil, but a move for the 20-year-old could be rushed through by Spurs in order to avoid him becoming cup-tied for the Europa League. PSV Eindhoven face SKN St Polten in a Europa League qualifier, although Depay could be left out of the squad to face the Austrian side.
Speaking on Wednesday, PSV technical director Marcel Brands reiterated that Depay was not for sale this summer and that the Eredivisie club had not received an offer for the winger.
However, the Daily Mail are reporting that Spurs have lodged a bid to try and sign Depay in an effort to strengthen their efforts to return to the top four and the Champions League, as well as mount a serious cup run this season.
The Europa League has proved a hindrance to some sides in the past – including Spurs – but with last summer’s recruits slowly settling in under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, the Argentinian could look to utilise his squad in all competitions.
Manchester United were believed to be interested in Depay with former Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal said to be a fan of the PSV star, but Van Gaal is reluctant to make a move at this time as he believes Depay must develop further before warranting a move to United.
Spurs remain locked in talks with Spanish side Villarreal as a move for defender Mateo Musacchio appears to have stalled. The 23-year-old Argentinian had appeared to be closing in on a move to White Hart Lane, but the La Liga club are said to be looking for a larger asking price in order to pay the sell-on clause that they will have to give to his former club River Plate.
