Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 20-year-old made an impact during the World Cup for Louis van Gaal's Netherlands team, rising from the bench to score the winner against Australia and another against Chile as well as adding an assist.
Manchester United are believed to also be interested in Depay, but according to Goal.com, Mauricio Pochettino will make the first move.
Van Gaal has told Depay to stay in the Eredivisie for another season to aid his development. At PSV he will be a first team regular, something that cannot be guaranteed if he were to move to England.
Depay was PSV's star man last term, scoring 14 goals in all competitions for the club.
Speaking at the weekend, Depay told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf: "I'm having a good time at PSV but, if big clubs from big leagues come to me, I will think about it. There is more than enough interest but it is also an option to stay at PSV.
"I understand that the fans want me to play in Eindhoven next season. I see a lot of children with my name on their shirt. I'm proud of that but I'm the one who decides how my career looks and no one else."
Spurs have bought three players so far this summer, Michel Vorm and Ben Davies from Swansea and Eric Dier from Sporting Lisbon.
