From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. The clubs have been locked in tough negotiations over the Argentine midfielder for some time now, but the Daily Record reports that a deal has finally been agreed.
Spurs will pay an initial €52million, with a further €8m in add-ons.
The move for the 23-year-old is likely to end Tottenham’s pursuit of Bruno Fernandes, who has been told by Sporting that he can leave if a club meet their €60m valuation for the midfielder.
The Daily Record adds that Sporting rejected a €45m offer and an improved €50m bid.
The Independent recently revealed that Manchester United have reignited their interest in Christian Eriksen and will target Bruno Fernandes as a replacement if the Danish midfielder leaves for Old Trafford.
The playmaker has not yet signed a new contract at White Hart Lane and his current deal set to run out next year.
Spurs are expecting to conclude a deal to sign long-term transfer target Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham.
The Championship club will not stand in Sessegnon’s way and it’s widely reported that a £30m bid has been submitted. The Daily Mail adds that Mauricio Pochettino is happy for Spurs academy product Josh Onomah to be included in negotiations to get a deal over the line.
Elsewhere, Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Spurs are maintaining their stance over Toby Alderweireld as interest from Serie A intensifies.
Roma are very keen on signing the Belgian defender, but Tottenham are demanding £23m for the central defender, while the Italian side want to pay just £18m up front.
17-year-old forward Troy Parrott could be set for a loan move to Championship side Charlton this summer to further his development.
Parrott scored 19 goals in 23 games for the Tottenham youth sides last season and has made several senior appearance during pre-season.
Jan Vertonghen has given no guarantees that he will remain a Tottenham player beyond July 2020, when his current contract expires.
He told the Mail: “I just want to focus on this year, I know I have got one year left so I know a lot of questions will be asked.
“I have said it before, I am very happy at the club. The supporters have been great for me, the manager has improved me a lot and has a lot of confidence in me.
“I feel very, very good physically so I am not sure what is going to happen this year, I can only say I am happy where I am at and I feel the support from the manager, team-mates and the squad.'
