At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Tottenham are reported to be in talks over a swap deal that would see striker Josep Drmic head to White Hart Lane with Roberto Soldado moving to Germany to join Bayer Leverkusen. The Switzerland international only arrived in Leverkusen in the summer after completing a move from fellow-German side Nurnberg, but the Daily Express reports that he has not settled well at the Bundesliga club and Spurs could look to take advantage of this.
Drmic, 22 and crucially seven years Soldado’s junior, hasn’t been afforded a great deal of football, and Leverkusen’s reluctance to let him go could be appeased by the offer of a replacement in the form of Soldado.
Spurs are also being increasingly linked with a move for shamed Everton forward Kevin Mirallas. The Belgian’s future was already in question after he stalled contract extension talks until the summer with just 18 months left to run on his current deal. But his behaviour in the 0-0 draw against West Brom – where he refused to give the ball to regular penalty taker Leighton Baines only to miss the spot-kick himself – has infuriated both his team-mate and his manager Roberto Martinez, who was far from impressed on the sidelines.
With increased talk of Mirallas being sold this summer – or even before the 2 February deadline following his actions last night – reports in Belgium claim Spurs have already made contact regarding Mirallas’ availability. HLN claim that the White Hart lane outfit made an official enquiry, but face opposition for the 27-year-old from both Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid.
HEADING FOR THE EXIT…
Kyle Naughton is nearing a move to Premier League rivals Swansea after a reported £5m deal was agreed between the two clubs, who have history of doing business together. In the summer, Spurs took on Michel Vorm and Ben Davies from the Welsh club while Gylfi Sigurdsson returned to the Swans two years after his move away from the Liberty Stadium. Tom Carroll is also on loan with Swansea this season as part of their summer deal.
MISSED OUT…
Having been linked with a move to Spurs earlier this month, Italian forward Sebastian Giovinco completed an astonishing switch to the MLS after agreeing to join Toronto FC. According to Toronto FC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko, Giovinco turned down a number of clubs, which are thought to include Spurs, Arsenal and Monaco, in order to head to the United States. He said: “We are beyond excited to add a player of Sebastian Giovinco’s calibre. [Sebastian] chose TFC and MLS above many other international clubs.”
Of course, who are Toronto’s official partners following the Jermain Defoe transfer last year? Spurs.
