Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Juventus midfielder Tiago has rejected the chance to join Everton, the Serie A club's sporting director Alessio Secco has confirmed.
Juventus and Everton had agreed terms on a year-long loan deal with the possibility of the former Chelsea player joining the Toffees on a permanent basis at the end of the season.
However, Secco told Italian TV channel Canale 5 that despite the agreement between the clubs Tiago was reluctant to move back to the Premier League.
He said: "We had reached an agreement with Everton for the loan of Tiago. All that was needed was the player's agreement, and that never came.
"We take it, therefore, that Tiago will stay with us."
Juve were thought to be keen to offload the Portugal international in order to make room for more signings before the transfer deadline.
However, Secco announced there will be no new faces at the Turin outfit this summer regardless of whether or not Tiago leaves.
"The market remains closed to us regarding players coming in, like we already said some time ago now," he said.
"Even if Tiago leaves nobody else will come in."
