Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will hold crunch talks with Sergio Ramos over his future as Manchester United remain hopeful of signing the defender this summer.

Ramos is wanted by United manager Louis van Gaal to address his concerns in defence after United struggled at the back last season with a mix of injuries and inconsistent form. With Ramos believed to be unsettled at the Santiago Bernabeu, United have launched a move for the Spain international that has already seen a bid in the region of £30m rejected.

With Real determined not to sell the 2010 World Cup winner, both Perez and newly-appointed manager Rafael Benitez spoke to clarify that Ramos would not be going anywhere, but the uncertainty over the 29-year-old’s happiness at Real looks set to trigger crucial talks between Perez and the new Real captain.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, the two will meet during the club’s pre-season tour in China, where Real face both Milan sides AC and Inter as part of the International Champions Cup. Perez is eager to sit down with Ramos to discuss the transfer interest in him, and the reports adds that Ramos has already verbally agreed a wage package with United should a move materialise.

Real have told United to forget signing Ramos for anything less than €90m (£63m), but the Premier League club’s insistence that they will not sell David De Gea unless Ramos moves in the opposite direction could force their hand if they really want to sign the goalkeeper this summer.

It’s added that Ramos has personally asked the club to listen to offers should any come in that are near their valuation of the defender due to his desire to leave, although the promotion to captain after Iker Casillas’ departure and the club’s insistence that he is a key figure in their future could yet see him sign a new contract with the Spanish club.
