Manchester United remain interested in Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, but one of the Spaniard's team-mates has admitted that he can’t imagine seeing him in any other shirt than a Real one.

United are determined to either sign Ramos for what could be the most they’ve ever spent on a defender, or structure a deal that sees goalkeeper David De Gea move in the opposite direction in a player-plus-cash deal.

Real are holding firm on Ramos after rejecting United’s opening offer, believed to be in the region of £30m, and it could take as much as £46.5m to prise the World Cup winner away from the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

However, Real’s Spanish right-back Dani Carvajal has admitted that he can’t see Ramos playing in red next season, and added weight to the possibility that Ramos is using United’s interest to try and bag himself an improved contract with the Spanish club – something United are aware of.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, Carvajal said: "I don't know. All I do know is that he is a team-mate of ours and a cornerstone of Real Madrid, and no one can imagine him in the shirt of another club."

Ramos himself confirmed on Saturday that he is “not negotiating with anyone”, and with United yet to make a second bid, they face the prospect of heading out to the United States on their four-match pre-season tour with their pursuit of Ramos still up in the air.

One thing Carvajal did appear to confirm was Iker Casillas’s proposed move to Porto. The veteran 34-year-old goalkeeper has been linked with an exit this summer after an incredible 25-year career with the club since joining the academy in order to make way for the arrival of De Gea.

Having been linked with a move to the Premier League for a number of years, it appears Casillas will remain on the continent after reports suggested he is in talks with Porto, and Carvajal confirmed the move is imminent and believes that whatever the Spain international decides to do is the best decision for him.

"This is a question for Iker to answer. I have an exceptional relationship with Casillas and if this is his decision, then I feel it's in his best interest."
