Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Spanish radio station Cadena SER report that the Spanish club have offered the 29-year-old a contract worth around €7.5million (£5.34m/£100,000-a-week), an improvement on his current deal but way below what he expects to make.
Manchester United, who remain strong contenders for Ramos' signature, have been previously reported to have offered Ramos around €11m (£7.83m/£150,000a-week) a year for five years.
According to Cadena SER, Real Madrid would only be prepared to offer Ramos a maximum of around €8.5m per year, below the defender's demands of around €10m.
However, the report also indicates that the centre-back could reject any offer from President Florentino Perez as he is still unhappy at the way he has been treated, with news of his contract dispute leaked and the club hierarchy failing to deny reports linking him with Barcelona.
Ramos' link with United could still be an elaborate bluff to force Real Madrid into offering a new contract, but Manchester United are using his contract situation, as well as Real Madrid's pursuit of David De Gea, to their advantage.
