Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

While denying that he had made a bid for the German World Cup winner, Wenger did hint that the Gunners have made an enquiry.
During his post-match press conference after Arsenal's 5-1 victory over Benfica at the Emirates Cup, Wenger claimed that he had not already made an offer for the German, but gave a cagey response when pushed if he had enquired for the player who is entering the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu.
"What is enquire for you?" he responded. "I don't know. If I read the newspapers, he is available."
Wenger did admit in his earlier televised interview on BT Sport that he is still looking to bring in at least one more player this summer.
"Who's next? I don't know," Wenger said when asked about possible new arrivals. "There could still be one signing, maximum of two. If a good opportunity comes up we might still do it, but at the moment we are not close to signing anybody."
Arsenal beat Benfica at the Emirates Stadium thanks to four goals from Yaya Sanogo and one from Joel Campbell. The Gunners face Monaco in the pre-season competition this afternoon.
