Robin van Persie has been pictured posing in a Fenerbahce scarf ahead of his move to the Turkish club.

The former Manchester United striker posted a series of pictures on his social media feeds that also included him sitting in the cockpit of a private plane which will be flying from Manchester to Istanbul.

Van Persie, 31, is due to arrive in Turkey this afternoon to sign a three-year deal with the Istanbul club that is reported to earn him around £240,000-a-week.

He will touchdown at around 5.30pm (BST) on Sunday afternoon at Sabiha Gokcen Airport, where he is likely to be greeted by a huge group of Fener supporters.

"Previously we reported that we had begun transfer negotiations with Manchester United and the Dutch player Robin van Persie. On the evening of Sunday July 12, he is coming to Istanbul," read a statement on their official website.

The striker was brilliant in his first season at Old Trafford scoring 26 goals in 38 Premier League matches as the club won the title in Sir Alex Ferguson's final season in charge.

But in the two years since, under David Moyes, caretaker Ryan Giggs and Louis van Gaal, Van Persie has struggled with injury and form scoring just 22 goals in 48 Premier League games.

Fenerbahce signed another former Manchester United player in Nani last Monday for around £4million. The fee for Van Persie is not yet officially known, but is thought to be around just £5m.
