Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Tottenham head coach Juande Ramos will meet Dimitar Berbatov later today and assess whether the striker will feature against Sunderland this weekend.
Berbatov has handed in a transfer request and wants to move to Manchester United, with Ramos keeping him on the bench for 65 minutes last weekend in the defeat against Middlesbrough.
This week he has been on international duty with Bulgaria and the 27-year-old is scheduled to return today.
If he does play tomorrow at White Hart Lane, Berbatov is expected to be jeered by his own fans.
"Tottenham fans are no exception to any others - they support the team and get behind the side," said Ramos.
"If a player is on form, if he knocks in a couple of goals, then I'm sure anyone who booed him last week will soon be getting behind him and cheering him. That is what it is like.
"While he is still here, he is very much 100 per cent a Tottenham player - that is how we consider things.
"It is not a case of finding a solution to a problem before it occurs."
Spurs are seeking a replacement for Robbie Keane, who left for Liverpool earlier in the summer, but look to be out of the race to sign Andrei Arshavin from Zenit St Petersburg.
Arshavin's Russia team-mate, Roman Pavlyuchenko, would consider his family commitments before moving to London - while other suitable strikers mentioned include Diego Forlan and Luis Fabiano.
"We've got a list of targets that we are working very hard on," Ramos added.
"Negotiations are tough and sometimes they are even tougher than usual. We know what we are working towards and we know what our objectives are.
"The process of signing players sometimes takes time, but fans should be aware we are trying to strengthen up front and sign a new forward. Quite often these things take time."
Ramos is also in the market for a defender and was close to signing Vedran Corluka from Manchester City before that deal collapsed.
"It's true to say we have one or two areas that we need to look at defensively and maybe solve a few problems at the back," Ramos added.
