Manchester United's signing of striker Bebe from Vitoria Guimaraes for £7.2m in 2010 is being investigated by police in Portugal, with the club set to be questioned about the deal.

The inquiry is believed to focus on the role played by Bebe's agent, Jorge Mendes, who also represents Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson, and who is reported to have received 40 per cent of the transfer fee. United deny any wrongdoing.

Meanwhile United have informed the Football Association that Stuart Pearce cannot select any of their over-age players for the British Olympic team for the London Games apart from Ryan Giggs.
