From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Bolton's interest in the Bulgaria international came to light last week and the 31-year-old has now completed the move, having been released from Eastlands at the end of last season.
Petrov spent three years with City, scoring 12 goals in 66 appearances – a tally that surely would have been larger had injury not blighted his time in Manchester.
A knee injury ended his involvement last season and he was subsequently released by Roberto Mancini alongside fellow internationals Benjani Mwaruwari and Sylvinho. Premier League sides Everton, West Ham and Aston Villa were also linked with Petrov, although Bolton's interest always appeared the most concrete.
Norwich have signed Wolves midfielder Andrew Surman for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old made his name at Southampton before joining Mick McCarthy's side last summer but failed to make the grade in the Premier League, featuring just nine times. He has now signed a three-year deal at Carrow Road to become Paul Lambert's fifth summer signing.
Lambert said: "He has got a terrific left foot and is very good on the ball. At 23 years old, he's already got great experience. He will give us balance and he knows the Championship."
Charlton Athletic's failure to earn promotion to the Championship has forced the club to formally place a number of staff at risk of redundancy. A period of formal consultation will now take place to try and work out alternative budget cuts.
Managing director Stephen Kavanagh admits it will be a testing time for the club, beaten in last season's League One play-offs: "As a consequence of the team not regaining Championship status, we have to put in place plans for life in League One."
