Pogba is emerging as this summer’s hottest property in the transfer market, with PSG joined by the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Barcelona all interested in the 22-year-old midfielder, who is expected to cost in excess of £70m.
With the race to sign the France international one of the fiercest seen in the transfer market, PSG have looked to gain an advantage over their rivals by speaking to the player and his representatives.
According to reports in France, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirmed talks had taken place in Monaco, and he explained why the Ligue 1 leaders are determined to secure his signature this year.
“Why did I meet with Pogba? Because he’s a great talent, he’s French and he’s from Paris,” said Al-Khelaifi. “That said, all the big clubs want him.”
While PSG are hoping to announce a big signing in the summer in the form of Pogba, they could also be set for a high-profile exit with Edinson Cavani set to discuss his future with the club.
The Daily Mail reported that Cavani and his brother, who also acts as his agent, were due to meet with club officials on Wednesday to discuss whether he will be sold in the summer.
Cavani has been linked with a move to the Premier League with both Arsenal and Manchester United reported to be watching the Uruguayan striker with intense interest. However, both Juventus and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with moves, and the possibility of using Pogba to structure talks for Cavani could see the Italian side take the advantage.
