Your support makes all the difference.Manchester United remain confident of securing a prospective world-record deal to re-sign Paul Pogba from Juventus with reports suggesting on Monday morning that an increased offer of €110m (£92m) has been submitted.
The Italian champions are continuing with their efforts to force Pogba’s valuation through the £100m mark after moving ahead with the €95m (£79.1m) transfer of Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli as agent Mino Raiola negotiates the terms of his contract.
It is reported by The Guardian that Juventus are hoping to secure an extra £8m to soften the blow of the Higuain deal and deliver their European rivals with a stark warning that they will only sell their leading players for astronomical transfer fees.
With United set to meet Pogba’s £11m-a-year salary request and permit the France international to keep sponsorship and image rights, the total cost of the deal over the length of his five-year contract, plus Raiola’s agent fee, could be in excess of £175m.
The report continues by adding that Raiola is entitled to 20 per cent of the sum set to be paid by the 20-time English champions to Juventus. The Dutch agent was central to United’s successful pursuits of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan this summer.
Pogba left Old Trafford on Sir Alex Ferguson’s watch in 2012 after the Scot handed him just seven first-team starts and raised questions over his attitude. Since his departure, the Frenchman has excelled in Turin, lifting four Serie A titles, two Coppa Italias and helping Juventus to the Champions League final in the 2014/15 season.
But Pogba is said to have been enthused by Jose Mourinho’s appointment at United, the lure of the Premier League and the financial gulf between English and Italian football.
Despite being set to surrender a place in the Champions League as a result of returning to England, Mourinho has said in the past week his objective is not just to finish in the top four but to launch a bid for the club to win the Premier League for the first time since 2013.
